Mundra Port to start operating its container terminal in November 2001. The terminal will have a draft of 18.5 metres and is capable of berthing 8,000 TEUs vessel with back-up area of 108 acres of container yard and container freight station (CFS). The first phase of Rs.4.5 billion container terminal has been completed by Kvaerner Cementation. The Mundra Port is being developed by Gujarat Adani Port Limited, a joint venture company promoted by Government of Gujarat and Adani Group.
Andhra Pradesh Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kakinada Indian Oil Consortium (KIOLC), consisting of IOC, Petronas of Malaysia and Cocanada Port Company Limited with its associates British Petroleum for setting up a Rs.195 billion LNG terminal at Kakinada. The terminal will be completed in 48 months in two phases.
Visakhapatnam Port Trust is considering the possibility of forming a collaboration with Malaysia's Port Klang Authority for developing a container terminal at the port, which will act as a feeder facility.
Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) has tied up a short-term bridge loan of Rs.14 billion from banks and Financial Institutions for setting up a 5 million tonne LNG import facility at Dahej in Gujarat, at an estimated total cost of Rs.25 billion. Further, Asian Development Bank (ADB) has initiated talks with the PLL to pickup an equity stake in the company, through Asian Finance Investment Corporation (AFIC).
Adani Ports Limited has receives bids from various crane manufacturer including Samsung and KHIC of South Korea, Kone of Finland and Fantuzzi-Noel an Italian-German joint venture company, towards the global tender floated by it. Loan Interest Subsidy Scheme (LISS) for the Inland Water Transport (IWT) sector is scrapped by the Ministry of Shipping with effect from January 9. However, claims received from IWT operators for availing themselves of the LISS up to January 9, will be considered. The LISS will be replaced by a new vessel building subsidy scheme which will provide better fiscal incentives to attract private investments.
Hindustan Shipyard Limited's global tender, for the construction of Rs.200 million floating dock has attracted bids from 16 foreign shipyards. This is the second time shipyard has floated global tenders for the floating dock, as the earlier one was cancelled due to "certain legal problems" after being awarded to a Chinese Shipyard. The floating dock is expected to be completed in 14 months from the allotment of work.
