Maersk to Hike Rates to Africa, Indian Ocean - 2009-04-15


Maersk Line announced plans to implement a general rate increase for the trade from the United States and Canada to South Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. Effective May 15, the increases will be $200 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot or high cube container for both dry and reefer cargo. The carrier said the rate restoration is necessary to continue to operate services with the high level of reliability. In a separate announcement, the carrier said it will apply a rate increase of $200 per TEU to all export shipments from Brazil moving on its America to Asia Service (ASAS), effective May 1.
