Fire engulfs Dubai dock in busy shipping zone - 2011-10-31

Firefighting crews in Dubai battled a major blaze Sunday along one of the city‟s busiest commercial waterways, struggling to bring flames under control before they reached areas filled with cargo and merchandise ready for shipping.
Dubai‟s civil defense officials said the fire was believed to have been sparked by a gas cylinder explosion on a boat docked on Dubai Creek, which connects to the Gulf and is a main location for traditional trading vessels, known as dhows, that sail routes to other Gulf nations and along the East African coast.

The fire spread to another boat and threatened to engulf cargo holding areas before fire crews appeared on the scene. Thick smoke billowed from the site, which is near some of Dubai‟s main business areas. There was no immediate word on injuries.
