Plea to withdraw CTR at Chennai box terminal - 2011-12-26

The Consultative Committee of City Chambers of Commerce, which represents various industry chambers in the city, has appealed to shipping lines and feeder operators to immediately withdraw the congestion surcharges (CTR) at the Chennai port's container terminals. It is unfair that the shipping lines and feeder operators has been collecting from August 15 onwards. This has led to a huge loss to the trade. The situation at the terminals has improved and there is no congestion, Mr Chozha Naachiar, Chairman of the committee, said. ―Merely issuing notice to trade does not empower them to collect such charges, which is legally not valid,‖ he said in a statement.
