Maersk ‘slow-steaming' to subcontinent - 2012-01-31

Danish shipping giant Maersk Line is “slow steaming,” adding seven days to its China-Indian subcontinent loop, says Shipping Gazette quoting Compair Data.
Maersk is applying slow steaming to its CHX service between Asia and the Indian subcontinent, extending transit for the complete loop to 42 days from 35. Transit times eastbound to Asia from the Indian subcontinent on the CHX have increased by seven days as vessels slow-steam one week between Visakhapatnam and Tanjung Pelepas.

Safmarine will continue to take slots on the CHX loop along with X-Press Feeders. Six Maersk ships, averaging 4,233 TEU, will rotate through Qingdao, Xingang, Ningbo, Shanghai, Guangzhou-Nansha, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Kelang, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam, Tanjung Pelepas and back Qingdao, the report adds.
