13th cruise vessel calls at New Mangalore - 2012-03-12

The 13th cruise vessel of the current financial year called at the New Mangalore Port on Thursday. New Mangalore was the first port of call for the vessel – m.v. Seabourn Legend – in India.

Dr P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), said this is the third call of the vessel at the port during the current fiscal. Four more vessels are scheduled to call during the last week of this month. A majority of the 190 passengers in the vessel were from the US and the UK. There were 173 crew members in the vessel. Of the total passengers, 134 opted for ground tour. Another 14 passengers opted to go to Delhi and Agra by air, and will be boarding the vessel at Mumbai. Coming from Indonesia, it sailed to Goa and from there it will go to Mumbai.

Mr S. Gopalakrishna, Traffic Manager of NMPT, said that another vessel with 3,000 passengers and 1,200 crew members would call at the port on April 1. This vessel — m.v. Brilliance of Sea — will be the largest cruise vessel ever calling at the port, he said.The vessel is again expected to call at NMPT on April 12, he said.
