Cochin Shipyard launches two offshore supply vessels - 2012-08-07

Cochin Shipyard Ltd has launched two platform supply vessels that support oil platforms or rigs being built for European clients. While one of the vessels, bearing yard hull no. BY-89, was launched by vessel owner’s representative Osman Sevver, the other (yard hull no. BY-90) was launched by Cochin Shipyard’s Chief General Manager (Technical), George Thomas Roy.

The shipyard, in a press release, said that the vessels are of PSV 05L CD type, designed by STX OSV AS, Norway, and are classed under the rules and regulations of Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The high-end diesel electric vessels are equipped with four 1,200 kilowatt diesel generator sets and two 1,600 kilowatt azimuth power thrusters. They have been assigned the ‘clean design’ notation by DNV, signifying the highest level of environmental compliance. They also have ballast water treatment plants to prevent risks to environment arising from transfer of aquatic organisms and pathogens.

Each vessel has a capacity to comfortably accommodate 28 persons on account of arrangements that reduce noise levels and vibration. The vessels have top notch fire-fighting facilities; can carry out oil recovery in the event of oil spill and can carry low flash liquids like methanol on specially-inserted stainless steel tanks
