Mainline container vessel calls at NMPT - 2013-01-04

The first mainline container vessel of the current fiscal called at New Mangalore Port recently. A press release by New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) said here on Tuesday that mainline container vessel of Pacific International Lines (PIL) – m.v. Kota Hauls – unloaded raw cashew cargo from East Africa on December 26. The direct calling of the mainline vessel at New Mangalore helps reduce transit time and handling cost, it said. With the calling of mainline vessels at New Mangalore, the transit time between East Africa and New Mangalore has been reduced to 9-10 days. Otherwise, the voyage from East Africa, via Colombo, to Mangalore will take 28 days.

Quoting P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT, the release said that the direct calling of mainline vessels at the port has helped increase the container cargo handling at the port. Container handling at the port recorded a growth of 3.26 per cent in the first nine months of the current fiscal, it said. Seamaster Shipping Logistics of the Seaways group was the agent of the vessel and Delta Marine Logistics Ltd was the stevedores.
